Batman: The Killing Joke Animated Movie News - Trailer, Story Details, Cast, Release Date, More - UPDATED 5/22/16

It really seems like Warner Bros is going all out to please the fans for this one. From sticking to the source, to bringing back their favor actors, to giving it the rating it deserves and more.

Batman: The Killing Joke has been given an "R" rating by the MPAA. Warner Bros said in a press release that the studio had "chosen to remain true to the landmark DC Comics graphic novel’s violent, controversial story, making the film the first non-PG/PG-13 rated movie in the nine-year history of the DC Universe Original Movie franchise. From the start of production, we encouraged producer Bruce Timm and our team at Warner Bros. Animation to remain faithful to the original story – regardless of the eventual MPAA rating,” said Sam Register, President, Warner Bros. Animation & Warner Digital Series. “The Killing Joke is revered by the fans, particularly for its blunt, often-shocking adult themes and situations. We felt it was our responsibility to present our core audience – the comics-loving community – with an animated film that authentically represented the tale they know all too well.”

The first Batman: The Killing Joke Trailer shows that this was not a project taken lightly. Take a look.
While this animated movie will certainly hold true to Alan Moore and Brian Bolland's 1988 graphic novel, which is what the film is based on, Bruce Timm revealed that they had to add a little bit of story in order to make this a full-length movie.

"The one big difference about it, as opposed to those other projects (The Dark Knight Returns Part 1 & Part 2), is The Killing Joke... the source material is really not long enough to make an entire feature film out of, so we actually had to add a lot more story to it. Which is tricky. But I think we came up with a really good solution on how that worked". - Bruce Timm

Timm could be referring to the 15-minute prologue section of the movie, which was mentioned all the way back at SDCC 2015 when the film was first announced. Which would be a good thing because it wouldn't alter the story and would also give us something to chew on that couldnt be expressed in the comic but only thought amongst readers. Personally I approve if it is the prologue.
In the past, there had been plenty of rumors that Mark Hamill and Kevin Conroy, who voiced Joker and Batman respectively on The Animated Series, would return for this animated movie. In January 2016, Conroy and Hamill seemed to tease the collaboration over Twitter
Now we have confirmation that Warner Bros has brought back all of the fan favorites. The have brought back Mark Hamill and Kevin Conroy who voiced The Joker and Batman in The Animated Series to reprise their roles. They have also brought back Tara Strong who also played Harley Quinn in Arkham City to reprise her role as Barbara Gordon/Batgirl from The New Batman Adventures. They have also brought in Ray Wise who voiced Perry White in Superman: Doomsday (which also had a strong voice cast) to voice Commissioner Jim Gordon.
